🎬 The Kino-Ciné is pleased to welcome, in preview, Girls for Tomorrow by Nora Philippe.
🗓️ Tuesday, December 2 • 🕖 7:45 PM
🎥 Session in the presence of director Nora Philippe.
🎤 The screening will be followed by a panel discussion in the presence of Nora Philippe and Cécile Duflot — politician and executive director of Oxfam France. ✨
Synopsis:
In 2015, with a baby in her arms, the director Nora Philippe arrives in New York and discovers Barnard College, a prestigious university for women. In search of allies to rethink maternity and feminism, and question the world where her daughter will grow up, she meets Evy, Lila, Anta and Talia, four committed students. Together, they undertake an intimate and political journey: transform indignation into movement, then chart their own path after graduation to defend change.
Over the course of an American decade—era Trump, MeToo, Black Lives Matter, climate crisis — they are now 30 years old and embody faces of resistance.
The words of the director:
“When we started, Obama was still the president of the United States. He had awakened so many expectations that he then inspired disappointments, including in all four of them. No one imagined that Trump would succeed him in 2017, let alone return to the White House eight years later.”
Journey & commitments:
From the Women’s March in Washington (January 2017) to their personal struggles — Anta against racism, Evy for climate, Lila for women’s rights, Talia for interreligious dialogue—the film follows them as they grow up, doubt, and put into action their convictions at the time of entering active life.
About Barnard College:
Since 1889, Barnard has welcomed young women from diverse backgrounds and conditions, nourished by a political culture that encourages militancy. An inspiring, multicultural, feminist and intersectional community.
