🎬 Film-debate—Documentary around "Luttopia"
An evening on homelessness and solidarity.
Le Kino-Ciné proposes the screening of Luttopia, a documentary shot in Montpellier (Sept. 2020) in the heart of an immense archive building occupied for six years and threatened with eviction. More than 200 residents—people on the street, in migration or hit by accidents of life — find refuge there. Led by Gwen and Jo, the collective engages in a negotiation with the public authorities. The film tackles the issue of poor housing head-on and celebrates solidarity.
Meeting after session:
with Gérard Léval (La Cimade du Nord), who will present the action of the association with migrants and/or refugees as well as Simon BAÏCHOU-ROSE (co-writer, co-producer and editor) to return to the approach and the making of the documentary. The speakers will highlight the role of associations and collectives.
An evening to listen, understand and act: highlighting those who live the housing emergency and those who, on a daily basis, weave solutions.
Synopsis — Montpellier, September 2020. In the huge building of the old archives, the squat Luttopia, occupied for six years, is threatened with eviction. More than 200 residents — homeless, exiled, victims of accidents of life—find a refuge there. Gwen and Jo, figures of the collective, tirelessly mobilize to avoid a return to the street and engage in negotiation with the public authorities. The film, both a chronicle of a place and a portrait of a community, questions poor housing, dignity, and what it means to do solidarity.
