Family Affairs

  • Théâtre

This documentary show is based on interviews conducted with lawyers and litigants. On stage, at the center of a bifrontal space, seven performers embody these encounters: an expert in child abduction, a father who has resorted to surrogacy or stories of domestic violence. Émilie Rousset collects these testimonies and assembles them in a device where video and acting dialogue to bring out as much the words as their silences. More than a succession of stories, Family Affairs questions the French and European justice as a place of translation of reality. It shows how intimate stories become records and how laws adjust to changing mores. The courtroom then becomes a mirror of our contemporary tensions.
