Alexis Michalik
To find a writer’s recognition and a decent standard of living for Paris in 1897, Edmond Rostand, after the failure of his Princesse lointaine with Sarah Bernhardt, tried to convince the great Coquelin to play in a new verse piece that he had not yet written... but whose title he held: Cyrano de Bergerac!
«Coquelin: How’s your play? Comedy? Tragedy?
Edmond: Tragedy.... Comedy!!
Coquelin: My role?
Edmond: A... poet. Fine swordsman. With... a big... nose.
Coquelin: A big... nose?
Edmond: Huge. A protuberance.”
