🎬 Film-debate—A popular American history 2 (Olivier Azam and Daniel Mermet)
📅 Tuesday, February 3 6 PM–8 PM
Le Kino-Ciné offers you the screening of Howard Zinn — A popular American story 2, followed by a debate in the presence of director Olivier Azam.
Building on the work of historian Howard Zinn, this second part pursues a rereading of the history of the United States "from below", by restoring a central place to the forgotten elements of the national narrative: indigenous peoples, workers, black people, migrants, social movements. Constructed from rare archives and encounters, the film sheds light on the mechanisms of myth making, and questions the cultural battle that is currently going on in American society.
The best-seller A Popular History of the United States revealed to Americans a part of their long past that had been ignored by themselves, restoring a place in history for Native Americans, Blacks, workers and workers caught in the great factory of the American dream. The work of Howard Zinn has opposed the founding myths since Christopher Columbus and today imposes itself as a counter-fire to the ideological war led by Donald Trump, who made it his bête noire in history.
