CITADEL

  • Théâtre

Between 2010 and 2011, five men were found drowned in the Deûle, near the Citadel of Lille. Botched investigations, families left without an answer, a city that avoids skirting the banks at night... Years later, a young skinhead admits to assaulting one of the victims. The involvement of the far right in Lille is no longer in doubt. It is this case that Mélodie Lasselin and Simon Capelle choose to dig up in CITADELLE, the first part of a triptych. It is the theatre in its most archaic function that we find here, an enterprise of transformation of reality that arouses empathy and contributes to strengthening our society against violence.

Film by Olivier Meyrou
One night in September 2002, 29-year-old François Chenu was beaten to death in a park by three skinheads because he was gay. Thanks to a long preparation work off camera, the young man’s family agrees to turn themselves over to Olivier Meyrou’s camera and talk about the facts again.
