A clever blend of cinematic experience and musical trip, Combustion demonstrates how pyrotechnics are used as a weapon of massive diversion in today’s society.
On the big screen, a video pamphlet gathers images gleaned from the internet: military parades, pop-star concerts, standardized TikTok videos, North Korean political meetings... These sequences are interspersed with the daily life of workers in Liuyang, a Chinese city that includes most of the pyrotechnical factories on the planet.
This video performance at a frenetic and precise pace plunges us into these factories where the workers take all the risks without ever seeing the promised party.
Combustion questions our globalized economy: in this relentless race for performance, how far can humans go without causing everything to disrupt?
