Brother and sister, drummer and dancer, Lander and Femke Gyselinck apprehend rhythm as a universal language. Fundamental, it connects us to the world, cadence our steps and our emotions. With Figures of Speech, carried on stage by seven dancers and four musicians, it becomes the field where music and dance compete without ever competing. Femke orchestrates a choreography woven with contradictions, between collision and appeasement. Lander interweaves acoustic drums and electronic samples. Musicians dance, the border fades. No hierarchy between disciplines, nor between scholarly and popular culture. Only bodies that listen, respond and improvise.
