1975, in a community apartment, somewhere in the USSR. In the middle of drying laundry, a dozen women tell a journalist their unusual story. For good reason, they are former "front girls", veterans of the Great Patriotic War, which opposed the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany. Between 1941 and 1945, nearly 800,000 women took up arms to defend their country. Too little known, this story is the work of the Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievitch, Nobel Prize for Literature in 2015. While history and war are generally told by men, this choral piece offers a new perspective, between thirst for life and emancipation. In the background, she also questions the status of women, perpetually challenged...
