The underground of the Lille metropolis is rich with a heritage of several centuries of exploitation of underground quarries that have subsequently known other activities, serving for example as a refuge during the war or cultivation areas. The underground quarries therefore represent a rich historical, cultural and natural heritage, which is however impossible for a large public to access. The exhibition «The underground world of quarries» invites you to wander in this world of chalk, thanks to a virtual restitution that will make you discover remarkable sites at different times of their existence. The exhibition will also be an opportunity to present objects from these careers, while valuing the research conducted at the University of Lille on this local and fascinating heritage.
