Every Wednesday afternoon, the Memorial Ascq 1944 opens its doors for free from 1:30 PM to 5 PM.
The 1944 Ascq Memorial recalls the massacre of 86 civilians by soldiers of the 12th SS Division Hitlerjugend, on the night of April 1 to 2, 1944.
Installed at the main place of executions, the 1944 Ascq Memorial evokes the event and places it in the history of the Northern Occupation of France.
The Memorial is also a place of reflection on the fate of civilians during the war.
He wants to wear a message for peace, tolerance and fraternity between men.
Self-guided or audio-guided tour in 4 languages (French, English, German, Dutch).
Annual closures: month of August and school holidays in December

The guided tour

A guided tour through the streets of Ascq is offered at 3 PM, upon reservation. Price 3€ (2€ reduced).
The guided tour through the streets of Ascq allows you to discover the significant places of the tragedy to better understand the course of events: location of the sabotage, place of the station, center of Ascq.
Stops in front of some massacred houses allow to better understand the sufferings of the victims and their families and the fear experienced by the population of Ascq.
This allows discovering how the memory of the event was inscribed throughout the village (street name changes, commemorative plaques).
The opportunity for a transmission between (grandparents) and children to make them aware of the history of the Second World War.
