What is a refugee? A look at the contemporary practice of the right to asylum in France
On Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 6:30 PM, the Culture Space of the Cité scientifique campus hosts the conference What is a refugee? A Look at the contemporary practice of asylum law in France, in partnership with SSAAL. Julien Boucher, lawyer and director general of OFPRA from 2019 to 2025, will present the contemporary challenges of the right of asylum. While more than 117 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide at the end of 2023, including more than 43 million refugees under the Geneva Convention, this meeting will shed light on the definitions, protections and challenges related to this status.
