A juror is a citizen drawn at random to participate in a criminal trial of criminal cases, at the Assize Court. Accompanied by three professional judges, he acts as judge within a jury composed of six citizens.
Some conditions are required:

  • to be of French nationality,
  • be at least 23 years old on the effective date,
  • be registered on the electoral roll,
  • knowing how to read and write French,
  • having never been sentenced to a prison term exceeding six months,
  • not perform the duties of a minister, prefect, or active military officer,
  • not have already held this position in the past five years.
Furthermore, even if you meet the conditions required by law, you cannot be included on the list of a session if you are related to the accused, to another member of the jury or to one of the magistrates who is a member of the court.
The drawing of lots for the sitting jury will take place in public session on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the Villeneuve d'Ascq Town Hall.
